ALL of my life I have struggled with weight issues.

When I was little, I was one of the most overweight kids because my mother fed me nothing but fast food, soda, and junk. I lost the weight as an early teen, but I always struggled to stay “thin”.

When I was a teen, an adult in my life actually would tell me I was fat when I wasn’t, which led to my disordered eating.For most of my teen years, I only really ate one meal a day just so I could maintain a normal weight.

Once I hit adulthood, I packed on 80 pounds quickly and the scale slowly kept climbing up each year until my health hit rock bottom.

For me, my weight was a mixture of many things- poor eating habits early in life, stress from trauma in my childhood, even more poor eating during my teen and young adult years, etc.

I ruined my metabolism during those years of barely eating, and it didn’t help that I was constantly being bullied by my then step-mother.

When I was 21, I finally started losing weight but I did it the “wrong” way- calorie counting, deprivation, and more exercise. While I managed to lose 100 pounds, I was completely burnt out by the end of that experience!

And then I had a baby, put most of the weight back on, and continued to be burnt out.

It wasn’t until I looked at ALL aspects of health that my weight started coming back off. It is not just about calories and exercise. It is not just about drinking half your body weight in water every day. It is not about hating yourself and punishing yourself just to look a certain way.

It is about healing the emotional wounds that could be making you hold onto the weight.It’s about healing your body as a WHOLE so it functions better.

These days, I am still working on weight because it’s been a huge part of my personal journey. I had to realize the emotional connections associated with being overweight (especially when I am someone that barely eats- my weight issues are NOT due to overeating).

I AM SO TIRED of the ads for weight loss. Most “health” sites are dedicated to losing weight, not actual health and I think it’s high time this changed!
